Beef, Sheep and Swine

Sunday, September 26th, 2010

You didn’t really think we would leave the Great Frederick Fair without a trip to the 4-H Beef, Sheep and Swine sale did you?

I guess we were feeling rich on Thursday when we outbid a whole slew of people for Sara’s Medium Weight Champ Market Barrow weighing in at 250 pounds.

Of course we weren’t feeling rich enough to buy Chase’s Res Grand Champ Market Hog. We’re proud of you Chase even though we couldn’t afford your hog this year.

Bye GFF, thanks for the extra few pounds in fried food. See you next year, Hilda.

Piglets and Show Chicks

Sunday, September 19th, 2010

Yup you guessed it. The Great Frederick Fair is in town this week and with it, a showing of the best of our rich agricultural community. Nothing in life makes me happier than piglets. Ok I lie, a handful of other things do make me much happier but who could resist these guys.

And my second favorite, the show chickens

Don’t miss the fair this week. Rides, food and fun and come to VOLT afterwards for some great new cocktails.

Cooking for a Good Cause

Saturday, September 18th, 2010

We’ve teamed up with An Evening on the Riviera…Frederick’s Premier Food and Wine Charity Gala to offer a rare & unique raffle to be held during the event on October 8, 2010. Here’s your chance to cook with Chef for just $30.

We are offering two private cooking classes for six persons for each class. Classes will be held simultaneously in the kitchen at VOLT followed by lunch in the Chef’s Dining Room. Take this opportunity to enjoy an amazing experience with one of the best chefs in the country, all while supporting our community and neighbors in need.

All proceeds from the raffle go to support the charities benefiting from the event, which this year are The Boys and Girls Club of Frederick County and the Women’s Giving Circle.

Tickets for the raffle are $30 for 1 (2 chances to win) or $50 for 2 (4 chances to win).

Drawing will be held on the evening of the event, October 8th. Ticket purchasers need not be present to win.

Bye Bye ITS - see you next year

Sunday, September 12th, 2010

Such a beautiful day in Frederick. I hope you all had a chance to come out for the day and enjoy the sites, the smells and the freak show that is ITS. One of my favorite events in Frederick, never missed one since moving here about 10 years ago. See you next year ITS.

I couldn’t decide which station was my favorite, crispy, garden, sweet, or meaty. But of course in the end - meaty took it home.

My Maryland

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

I don’t know how much circulation My Maryland gets outside of Maryland. Its a great magazine published by our friends at the Maryland Farm Bureau. They have featured Bryan on the cover and a great article about VOLT’s relationship with our Maryland farmers and Bryan’s continued commitment to sourcing local, sustainable and organic for the restaurant.

If you haven’t read it yet, here is the link to the full article.

Big thanks to Becky Brashear for the article and Becky we just can’t wait for the Great Frederick Fair. Come to VOLT for drinks when the fair leaves town, I know you’ll need it. I’ll buy the rounds.

A Tasteful Pursuit

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

So how long have we all been waiting to get a taste of what those Top Chef judges tasted back in Season 6? Woo Hoo here is your chance! MICHAEL IS IN THE HOUSE!!

In support of Share Our Strength’s efforts to end childhood hunger, on Tuesday, September 28th, Bryan and Michael will prepare an eight-course meal with beverage pairings at VOLT. This is the first time the chefs will be cooking together in Maryland since leaving to embark on their culinary careers.

Ok my friends, tickets are not cheap, $1,000 per person and $2,500 per couple in the Chef’s Dining Room. But hey I’ll be there! No seriously, it’s all worth a great cause to end childhood hunger and you will have a chance to chat with Bryan and Michael, have an incredible dinner, and see all of the new tattoos up close and personal. Not to mention that we will have a very special guest with us- name to be released closer to the event.

For ticket information and reservations please go to Share Our Strength.
