The Art Reception April 3

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Just a reminder for our regular guests and all of you new to volt. We host a different local artist in our foyer and main dining room every two months.

The upcoming opening reception is April 3, 3:30-5:30 PM
Located Under the Volt Bar at Artique Underground
Champagne & Canapés with our compliments.

Currently in the Artique Underground Gallery we are hosting Richard Caplan
Exhibition: March 28, 2010-May 30, 2010
A note from the artist - Photography has been an interest of mine for over forty years. It has been in the last fifteen years that it has turned into an obsession. The transformation came when I finally realized what I wanted out of photography and photography decided what it wanted out of me.

In our dining room and foyer we have been hosting Karen Mitchell Starika whose last day on our wall will be April 4.
A note about the artist: Karen Mitchell Starika has over 25 years as a preservation architect, receiving awards from the National Historic Trust and the Louisiana Preservation Alliance. She was also published in the Architectural Record for a preservation project in New Orleans, and has additionally taught classical piano for over a decade.

RSVP to info@ArtiqueUnderground.com for the April 3rd reception

Flying pigs said whaaat?!*

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

I received these cute pictures from a Table 21 guest who recently enjoyed dining with our set of pigs. She writes…

The first one I posed as if Mr. Pig was enjoy the spritz and the second one -

well, I moved a bit, so I call it the drunken pig picture, which may be how Mr. Pig sees the world…

What can I say, people love the flying pigs. There was another lady who showed me her giant purse and said she was planning on taking one home with her (WHAT?) but didn’t realize how heavy they were when she lifted it (WHAAA?)

Folks, please the pigs are our lucky pets. Maybe one day we’ll come up with flying pig muffins or something for you to take home. But for now, they’re going to share a bit of fun with you on T-21.

Perfect little contest

Friday, March 26th, 2010

For all our Volt fans with their cameras. I’ve seen most of your pictures of Volt all over the internet. Here’s your chance to get a little something in return.

Our Downtown Frederick Partnership, to promote its Get It Downtown campaign, is sponsoring a photo contest. Participants must submit a photo of an item purchased at a participating Get It Downtown store.

The photo has to include the Get It Downtown logo. You can enter as many times as you want to. Photos can be color or black and white.

The photo has to be submitted by April 25, uploaded at www.getitdowntown.org. The winning entry will receive a $50 gift certificate from the Partnership and the photo will be used for the shopping promotion campaign. You can use the gift card at many of the great stores, including us, in downtown.

More details on the photo submission and submitted entries can be viewed on the website.

Ask your dinner captain for a Get it Downtown postcard to include in your picture if you would like to enter.

VOLT in the House

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

And the Senate too. These pictures are from a few weeks ago when we were invited to Annapolis. Look who else was there - Miss Maryland! Crazy enough, there was a bigger rush from the Delegates and Senators to shake Bryan’s hand instead of Miss Maryland. Guess the old adage is right, the way to a man’s heart is through food.

And this was totally awesome. A congratulations from all of our senators. Can you see the text? It’s kind of small on this picture. It reads “The Senate of Maryland offers its sincerest congratulations to Bryan Voltaggio in recognition of your hard work and dedication to the culinary arts. Your accomplishments as a Top Chef have brought distinction to the City of Frederick.”

A sincere thank you to Delegate Hecht and Senator Brinkley for inviting us to Annapolis to take part in the day.

Eat Like A Man

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

If you don’t get the subscription, run to your local grocery story and pick up the latest Esquire magazine. The “Eat Like a Man” article features recipes from “Four Eminent American Chefs” and guess who is among one of the four? Our very own Chef. And the Tina Fey article is hilarious.

For instant gratification, click here for the article and recipe. Sorry about the grease marks, I actually decided to make this recipe before I realized it was Bryan’s because it’s my kind of recipe - one pot and I had 90% of the ingredients in my fridge. Results were super yummy. Make sure to try it at home.

This second article is from the latest Art Culinaire. The pictures are absolutely beautiful. And no grease marks here since the recipes featured are far from my cooking criteria above. If you do try any of them, mark the pics as cool and… oh wait wrong blog. Go ahead and send your pics to the Volt Bro’s site. I’m sure they would love to see what you come up with.

And for the big reveal

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Well, you’ve been so patient. Most of you guessed it and some of you experienced it - Table 21 has indeed expanded. Due to high demand and your overwhelming love and support of Chef’s incredible 21 morsels of delight, we have added 4 more seats to Table 21. We have also revised the reservation time to include 5:30 and 8:30 seating times for every night of the week. I’ll post some pictures of the new table soon. It’s gorgeous.

A big thanks to our architect extraordinaire Charlie Perla for coming up with the design and Brian Flegel from Clark Construction for making it happen.

As for our old Table 21? Well, little know fact, our Chef extraordinaire himself came up with that table design and we served a whole year of happy 21’s on it. Don’t worry, we’ll give another life to old table 21 somewhere, somehow.
