Let there be art
Friday, November 21st, 2008Of course we always had a grand plan for our mayonnaise colored walls in the main dining room. But when we were approached about installing art by a new gallery owner in town, we couldn’t resist. More on the new gallery a little later on.
The art gracing our walls today is by Sydney Hopkins, a Maryland native, born in Baltimore. As a fine art painter her artwork is abstract, primarily inspired by the European abstract artists and the American landscape painters of the late 19th and early 20th century. She is influenced as well by the design esthetics of the 50’s and 60’s. She keeps a studio in the Woodberry neighborhood.
Although not so abstract, here is one of the pieces that I think is fitting.
The artwork is on loan to us for a few short months before we rotate to a new featured artist. We hope you have a chance to see the entire collection in the dining room before it leaves us. And yes, if you fall in love with one or two of the pieces, you may take it home with you. Just ask our dining room manager (Neil) for details.
